Brancusi at the Pompidou
The Centre Pompidou in Paris is staging a huge exhibition of Brancusi’s work with a thematic hang that will be at once “sober” and “lively and joyful”, according to Ariane Coulondre, lead curator of the show.
Read here about the exhibition opening next Wednesday.
Gormley vs. Rodin
While the media buzzes with anticipation for the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match, author Anthony Majanlahti finds himself captivated by a different kind of match-up, as he himself describes the current exhibition juxtaposing Antony Gormley’s work to Rodin’s sculptures at the Musee Rodin in Paris. Read his article here.
Phidias’ first solo exhibition
The first monographic exhibition of the greatest sculptors of the classical age, Phidias, opened last November at the Musei Capitolini in Rome. It’s a comprehensive look at the artist’s life and work, with over 100 works, some exhibited for the first time, including archaeological finds, paintings, manuscripts, drawings, multimedia installations. Here‘s a brief review of the exhibition that just came out by the same author of the previous article.
Podcast on Phidias
If you can’t go to Rome but want to know more about the life and work of the greatest of Old Masters, I suggest you listen to this episode of The Sculptor’s Funeral, where next to Phidias, Jason Arkles also discusses well-known landmarks of Classical Greece such as the Riace Bronzes, the Discus Thrower.
